So Long Sassy Brassy!

Last month, I saw this post and got really excited.  My husband and I have been
looking at lights and have been wanting to replace our light fixture in our foyer and our
chandelier in our diningroom.  Both these fixtures are original to the house and are the cheap
brass ones that scream 1990's!  When I read how Melissa used Krylon spray paint to change
her light fixtures to look more pottery barnish...I knew it was worth a $3.57 can of spray paint
to give it a try!

This fixture from Pottery Barn is $269.00

Here's the before of our light in our foyer:
(I forgot to get a picture before my husband took it down.)

Here's how it looks after a few coats of spray paint:

It looks so much better hanging in our foyer than the brass one did!

Here's the brassy chandelier before:
(I know, I know...so ugly!)

And here it is after a little spray paint:

I'd like to get rid of the glass globes and put shades over the lights.

Such a big change for a small price.
(The funny thing is, I read somewhere the other day that brass is coming back!
Um, no thanks!)

Next up, I'm doing our outside light fixtures!

We built our house in the 90s and we have all brass fixtures. Now I hate them. Little by little we have been painting them with a brown hammered look spray paint. I love it! It makes a huge difference.

HA! We have the EXACT same two brass looking things hanging in our dinning room and entry way (I mean EXACTLY the same).
Yours look amazing. I just don't think it would work well with what I'm planning on doing with the woodwork. I plan on painting all the floor boards, cabinets and woodwork white. I'll have to replace our counter tops with a lighter gray marble though. Maybe I can sell our existing counter tops on Craig's List.???

That looks great, and makes such a big differene. Lampshades would be so cute on the chandelier. Brass is coming back? No Way!

Kerri - I have just been catching up on your blog and I absolutely LOVE the green in your kitchen. It is a happy, fresh green and it looks beautiful.
I also am loving the chalkboard that is framed - excelllent idea and so pretty and useful too!
You guys did good.

P.S. I'm going to show my Sister in law your green. I think I told you before her kitchen is green but hers is a darker, almost split pea green and it does not look happy. Ha ha

Wow! love them! we need to do that with our outdoor lights... and I want to get rid of our sliverish indoor lights and go bronze... one day... I posted one of my counters with jars on it today... since I still haven't emailed them to you!! ;)

ps just noticed the green cake pops?!! too funny... were they green? or is it just really late and I should go to bed now?! ha ha

What a huge transformation. They look amazing.
I think adding the shades will look great too. I have seen them several places, like Jo Anne's and Hobby Lobby.
Have a happy day

We've lived in our house since December 2002. We have the UGLIEST/biggest brass light fixture above our front door. I don't know how many times I have said it needs to go. I LOVE what you have done with yours. They look beautiful!

ps. I guess I'm in the minority....I kind of like the glass globes on the one chandelier!

Please no to brass coming back!
Nice job.3.57 well spent. Just think how many people would just throw them out!
I think shades would be cute too.

I love them! They look great! It's the small things, isn't it.

They look fantastic. What a great way to make a huge difference. We've still got brass/gold fixtures throughout the house (on the list to change)....so maybe I should wait? Please tell me orange oak cabinets are coming back too - cause I've got those as well. Great job!

wow!!!love it!!! i would keep the glass just in case you ever want to change back...i like the glass, shades might make the lighting darker in there...but on the other hand there are so many cute shades to pick from!!! you are on a roll!!! the house looks great!!!
