Like Sands Through The Hourglass....

so are the days of our lives....

One of my earliest childhood memories is watching Days of our Lives on the couch with my mom...eating M & M's.  I was 3 or 4 years old.  As I think back now, I wonder why in the world my mom would let me watch a soap opera at that age?!  I probably was not actually watching the show, just in the same room with her while she watched.  And this is how it all began.

When I started school, I would obviously not get to watch Days...except over the summer or snow days.   In middle school, I remember my mom taking "notes" for me as she watched Days and I was in school. She would write her notes on legal pad size paper and after school she would fill me in on the show's happenings that day.  How CRAZY is that?!  I had actually forgotten all about that until I started writing this post.

When I was in highschool, my family bought a VCR. (we were one of the first people I knew that had one!)  It was so exciting to be able to see the show everyday all year long!  I had hit the jackpot!

My parents divorced my first year in college...and that's when I think my mom stopped watching Days of our Lives.  But not me.  I scheduled all my class....all four years...around my 1-2pm show.  CRAZY again, I know!  Someone should have gotten me help!

All these years I have continued to watch Days.  My husband and I even named our son after one of the characters on the show (ok...I liked the name Brady anyway, but still).  I don't think many of my friends even know I watch Days of our Lives.  It's not like I talk about it or anything.  And, I don't even sit down to watch it anymore....the tv is on from 1-2pm but I am folding laundry, paying bills, checking email, etc.  It's like my guilty pleasure...except it's really not a pleasure to me anymore!  I usually figure out the plot well before it comes out...and some of the storylines are so ridiculous it drives me crazy!   It's more like an obligation, seriously.  These people are like family to me.  I see them daily.

I recently heard a rumor that Days of our Lives may not be returning this fall.  I was actually excited when I heard this... and thought this is it!  This is my way out!  Unfortunately,  I think the show has been picked up again....so we'll see.

There you have it......my embarrassing little confession.....hopefully we can still be friends!

Kerri, that is too funny. I used to watch Days too. I guess it was during high school (summers) and college. But, I haven't watched it in years and years. Actually, now if I have the tv on during the afternoon while I'm nursing the baby or folding laundry I speed right past the soap opera channels. There's something about them now that make me cringe. Maybe it's that I remember how for a while anyway I got sucked in. :) Thanks for sharing your guilty pleasure.

Haha! For me growing up it was All My Children. I DVR it every day and fast forward through the mega dramatic corny stuff. That Erica Kane is a loony!

My roommate in college and I watched it too. Not sure if we scheduled our classes or if it just worked out that way. Haven't seen it in years...I bet not much has changed.

Oh my gosh! My grandmother (my Mom's mom) watched the very first episode of Days and during the summers when we would go visit her we would leave hooked. In Jr. High and High School, we taped it on the VCR and my mom, sister and I watched it when we got home. I also scheduled my college classes around Days (when I could) and taped it on the days I couldn't watch it. I used to tivo it and now you can watch it at night on soapnet, but I haven't watched it in years. I think my grandma still does, though. I loved that show!!

Yes, we can still be friends after your "confession"! haha. :)

I used to LOVE Days. That was the only one I watched. I loved Bo and Hope. I'm not sure when I stopped watching, but I slowly did.

I think that is a cute memory you have of being 3 or 4 and watching with your mom while eating m&m's!

Happy mother's day to you!

I remember my grandmother watching this. It was one of her "stories." I remember picking up the storylines even when I was young. Then I could miss it for months or years and sit down with gramma and still know what's going on. Crazy.

This was your dad's first encounter with days of your life. Right after your mom and I got married and I was stationed in Las Vegas, I came home one day and your mother was crying her eyes out. I asked her what was wrong. She said: So and so died. I asked who that was in the family and she said on my soap opera. I could not help but laugh but at that moment she got me hooked on the show too.
