Barn Bed

When Brady was little, he loved tractors.
He loved cutting the grass on the "tractor" with Daddy.
We also lived in an old farmhouse that had a barn.
Eric and Brady loved doing projects out there.
When it came time for Brady to have a big boy bed, I thought a barn bed would be fun.
Eric designed the bed, and then he and Brady got to work on making it.

The roof has real rubber shingles.

The barn door opens.

We had the crib mattress in the bed for a couple of days before we found a big mattress.
Brady loved his barn bed!

My husband always impresses me with his creations.
This is the same man that didn't even own a tool box when we got married!

I know it won't be long before Brady gets a new bed.  I mean, how old can he be and
still be sleeping in a barn bed?  He doens't seem to care...but I know it's only
a matter of time before he wants a new bed or
a friend is over and says something about it....it's bound to happen!

I'm not sure what we'll do with this bed when Brady gets a new one.
I can't imagine getting rid of it.  Usually I'm not sentimental about these things...
but there are some things that are harder to let go of than others.  I'm sure I will
cry when we disassemble it.  It's just another sign to add to my growing list
that our little boy is getting older...whether we like it or not.

That is amazing. Very creative, especially for someone who is learning as he goes. I wouldn't get rid of it... maybe if Brady doesn't care, instead attach it to the wall and add a whole bunch of hooks to it for his caps and hats and just have dad make a new headboard to match the footboard. You're right some things just need to be kept!

Holy cow! That is amazing. That is talent, I tell ya.
I wouldn't be able to get rid of it either. Surely something could be done. I like Dana's suggestion.

Your header is sooooo sweet!!!

I always feel better about getting rid of sentimental things when I know they are going to a good home. I bet you can find someone that you know who will LOVE that bed as much as Brady does/did. It really is sweet that you have pictures of the two of them assembling it :-)

That is definitely something you have to keep, forever! I would cry too taking it down. You should keep it in case Brady has a son one day. Give him the bed and an envelope full of the pictures you have taken of it. Such a wonderful, cherished possession! Your husband is so amamzingly TALENTED! :)

That is soooo sweet! You can't get rid of it. You need to save it so Brady can have his kids use it. He helped make it after all. Oh my, I love it!

That is too cute! I can't imagine it taking up too much room when it is dis-assembled. I would put it away in the attic for a grand baby or someone in the family that would cherish it! Its too precious!

Love it so much. You must keep it forever. Is that Barbara on the bed? Did I get the name right?

Lydia loved the bed. . .she was reading over my shoulder. The boys have that same blanket on their beds!

You have to keep it Kerri, because someday Brady or maybe his wife:) will surely want it!

It sure is hard to move on sometimes isn't it. . .bittersweet!

OK, Kerri, first of all, that bed is amaaaaazing ... of course, you should keep it - it's a one-of-a-kind and so so special!!! But, hey, you're talking to just the person who can totally sympathize on the whole 'getting older' thing ... how I've cried and cried at these very moments, and still so many more to come ... it hurts doesn't it?! A happy kind of hurt, but still ...

Sniff sniff, that would be so hard to part with. Your hubby is truly talented. So impressed. My hubby is pretty handy too and he had like two tools when we got married. We watch a ton of This Old House and we used to watch HGTV all the time. Definitely learned a lot from them.
