New Wheels!

When Brady was 5, he got a bike for his birthday.
He had a little bike before that, but didn't really have any interest in it.  He wasn't all that thrilled with his new bike either.

He rode it a few times with the training wheels on.
He also tried one summer without the training wheels.
But, he never came close to being able to ride on his own.
One thing about Brady, he's always been very safe!
We didn't have to worry about him climbing or jumping when he was little.  He wouldn't want to hurt himself!

Last summer we put his bike in our yard sale...he outgrew it.
The bike looked new.  We suggested getting a new bike...but he said he didn't want one.

Eric and I worried he'd never learn to ride a bike...especially since he had zero interest in it.  Is it possible to go your whole life without ever learning to ride a bike?   We would surely have failed as parents if this were the case!

Well, two weeks ago Brady suprised us and asked for a bike.
I couldn't believe it.  What changed his mind?  Or maybe who changed his mind?!  A new girl moved down the street from us right before school started and she's in Brady's class.  She rides her bike over to our house and they mostly play on the playset.  This is where the need to have a bike all of a sudden was coming from!

So, yesterday we took Brady to get a bike.  Normally we don't just run out and buy things Brady wants.  (Although Brady rarely asks for anything)  But, I was thinking soon it will be winter and too cold to be out bike riding.  I was also thinking this would be a nice distraction from tennis.  :)

He did it!  After just a few tries...he was riding around the neighborhood with his friend.  Eric reminded me that this new bike means that Brady will have a little more freedom....hmmmm.  I think I prefer him playing in the backyard!  Actually, I'm thrilled that he finally learned to ride a bike...and now I want one too!

Have a great week!

That's so great Kerri!! Our little Noah learned to ride without his training wheels this past weekend too!!! They grow up way too fast!!!

Yeah, Brady!!! Isn't it amazing how, when they are really ready for something, they just seem to do it, but if we push them into it, it takes forever for them to master? Why is that???

How fun! I often wish our street were safe for bike riding - but then I know I'd have to let him go out on it... ;)

I found myself saying, "Go Brady, go!!" in the pictures of him learning....
Maddox is the only kid on our street that can't ride a bike--
i know the feeling!!
Hopefully we will get him one and he can learn soon!

That's awesome!!! How fun. I just bought myself a bike a few weeks for another option for exercising. I love it. My husband wants to buy one too. We'll be the dorky family with kid seats on our bikes, but we'll have fun!!

I love the pictures Kerri! I think Boyd has that same little red bike? He is not much into riding it yet, because he can't reach the pedals. Anyway, I love Brady's new bike! I bet he is going to have a ton of fun on it. I would love to have a bike as well. I haven't ridden one in years.

Oh yes! And now he is off. Love the pics of him learning. Its so much easier for them to learn when they are a little older and more patient.

That is awesome! I really believe he is destined to become a tennis great with that kind of single-minded focus. He would have much rather played tennis than fool around with a bicycle. :) Well...until a cute girl comes along anyway. ;)

My daughter was/is the same way, only she hasn't yet decided she wants a bike. But last summer we got out her old one and she got the hang of it pretty quick.
Good for him. See, never doubt the influence of a woman!

Ooooooo this hits a little too close to home with me.
My younger three kiddos do not know how to ride bikes or swim. The older two taught themselves. It was not for lack of encouragement from us, but flat out refusal from them. I don't think it's the end of the world if they don't know how to ride bikes, but it's dangerous and ridiculous if they can't swim. Here's where we fork over a lot of $cha ching$ to hire a private swimming coach to teach our three younger kiddos to swim. My kiddos are almost 9, almost 11 and 13...not knowing how to swim at those ages is just foolish.
I wish some cute girls and little boy would move into town so that it mould motivate my kids.

What fun photos!

Yes, it would be nice if you all 3 had a bike and could ride together. I'm guessing that is coming soon. You will love it. We finally did it, & wish we had sooner. We go to Rehoboth DE frequently, and there are some wonderful bike trails there.

I hear you on the not rushing out to purchase his every whim, but I like that this one = fresh air, outside, moving/exercise..I wish we had biked as a fam much sooner when my kids were younger, but better late than never.

You bloggy ppl have cool kid names..Maddox, Brady, Boyd...

I love that! Leave it to a girl to get him moving! I can honestly say that Max is on his bike every free moment he has! With 5 boys his age, living only a few doors apart, he learned quickly!

Yeah Brady!
isn't that funny...all those years of wanting him to learn and then one day he just decides too and boom!...off he goes! Wish it worked like that with me!:)
I see lots of family bike rides in your future...once you get a bike!:)
have a happy day kerri

Congrats Brady! One day I know you'll have the post about him driving a car...but that can wait! Have fun with the bike. I remember learning to ride and I hit many mailboxes on my road to freedom!

Yay Brady! I love that last pic of him looking all serious. I think this will be a nice distraction from tennis. My kids love all wheeled things: skates, bikes, scooters, skateboards, etc. From all the holidays and birthdays we are pretty well stocked up but I feel like those are healthy indulgences. So glad he is enjoying it.
