Keeping It Real

I hope that the people reading my blog never think I have "the perfect little life".  Because I don't.  Like many bloggers, I choose to write about the happy and fun things going on in our life....at least most of the time...cause who wants to read about all the negative stuff anyway?  There are a handful of blogs I read, that keep it more real, and I admire those women greatly.    Anyway, Jen at Denton Sanatorium challenged her readers to keep it real today.  So, I thought I would join in and give my readers a little dose of reality!

If I'm keeping it real today....I would tell you:

We almost missed the bus this morning.  We were running around last minute because Brady needed to watch the last hour of the Biggest Loser that we dvr'd for him last night.  Finishing Biggest Loser was also more important to him than brushing his teeth before school.  It might be time for cousin Susie to visit us again and show my son her false teeth!

**********

Remember the toilet paper pumpkins I made the other day?  Well...now they look like this:

We needed the toilet paper!

**********

So, I went to my class this morning at the gym and worked out for an hour and fifteen minutes...even though my monthly friend is due any second and I didn't feel like going.  Only to come home and eat this:

I get so disappointed in myself for making these kinds of choices.

**********

This has been laying in our backyard now for about a week.  I really hate when things are left out in our yard all sanford and sonish.  Drives me crazy!  But not crazy enough!  This is where my passive aggressive behavior comes in...and I want to see how long it takes before someone picks it up and puts it away.   We'll see....

And yes, you're right...our yard does need mowed!

**********

We had a garage sale back in May and haven't been able to use our garage since.  I always think that's a husband thing...that he should keep it clean and organized.  Anyway, the three of us tackled it together one Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago and it only took us about two hours to get it to where we could actually pull our van inside.  Just in time for cold weather!  Brady asked if we could take a before and after picture.  I took a couple just to make him happy.  I  had no intentions of ever showing anyone our embarrassing mess...but since I'm keeping it real today...her it is:

Before

I am cringing....

Not perfect...but much better.

**********

Our Wednesday dinners are usually not very healthy.  I have to pick Brady up from school in order to quick get home and get dinner before his tennis clinic.  So, this is what it looks like most Wednesdays!

Hmmmm...I must have left the carrots over on the counter...

So there you have it my friends!  I kind of actually feel a little better after this post!  Maybe I should try to keep it real more often?!

My friend Nicole posted this quote the other day on her blog...and it totally reminds me, especially when reading blogs...that none of us are perfect.  We are only showing you a tiny bit of who we really are.  Alway keep that in mind.

**********
Imagine that each of us is an iceberg. When you look out across the ocean, you see the top 10% of the icebergs in the water. That 10% is the part that we want others to see. It is important to remember that each of us has another 90% that we're "hiding" below the surface. Never compare your 90% to someone else's 10%. It's not a fair comparison.

I love that quote. . .

I made myself not buy any more candy corn today at Walmart, instead I bought rice crispies to use up all the stale marshmallows we have. . . and I didn't got to the gym today at all!

Loving this post today! I guess I kind of kept it real this week. I hate that I have had some complaints. I also showed our yucky yard and the fact that we have let Boyd color all over the back of the house with sidewalk chalk! :)

I love the look of your garage and I agree, it's the husband's job!

At least you worked and, THEN ate the candy. I haven't worked out in ages. I am feeling it too. I need to start walking now that it is cooler.

The toilet paper decoration thing cracked me up...we always run out of it here.

I'm glad you added that quote. Might be an all time favorite of mine. I wish I would have remembered where I copied it from.

It's nice to see everyone's "messy" side every once in a while. I was just thinking today that although I like to be upbeat and be around others that are upbeat, it's nice to know we are all going through the same stuff at times!

enough rambling. :)

You had the same dinner we did!
See? It feels good to let it all hang out, doesn't it?
Thanks for cringing with me--I could barely post the pictures of that closet.
It's all part of my iceberg!

We are always running low on toilet paper!
That is too funny!
So glad we are all in such good company!
Love the quote! That applies to people everywhere. The ones we meet at Soccer games...and the folks we work with. There are only few dear friends that we let completely in to our messiness.
Have a great night!

Great post and I haven't been over to Jen's blog yet so I may have to take this challenge too. I was totally shocked when someone asked me recently if we ever have any problems because our life seems perfect. OH MY - My 90% has definately NOT been showing - Great quote!!

I may be keeping it too real lately...I have to admit I might have been comparing my 90% to your 10% lately...it did look perfect from over here. You guys are just so darn cute! Thanks for sharing your mess. I'll try to be a little more upbeat over in my corner too! ;)
Have a great day!

Love this post! I cracked up at the dismantled toilet paper pumpkins because that would so happen here!

pssst, we run out of lightbulbs alot, and I always forget to buy them, so I "borrow" lightbulbs from other lamps that we don't use so much. Yep, I feel better now ;)

Kerri I posted a "Keeping it real" too! I loved this post of yours. The toilet paper cracks me up!!! That would be our house too.

I love this post, I agree that sometimes you've got to let go and get it out. Those toilet paper pumpkins (or the remnants) are cracking me up, sorry, probably not to you, but it is pretty funny. As far as working out and then scarfing candy, I can relate. I weighed in today at Weight Watchers almost a pound more than last month and then I ate about 5 girl scout cookies. What the heck am I doing?! Thanks for posting the garage pics, we desperately need to get ours in order before the cold weather strikes.

my favorite part is that you broke into your crafty pumpkins to get extra toilet paper - now that's funny!! I was too late in reading jen's recent posts to do this today, but I might link up late - it's such a great idea! Thanks for sharing!!

We had the same dinner as you did minus the chips. I laughed so hard over the pumkin toilet paper. We have had a Costco size TP package sitting at the base of our toilet now for 3 weeks. No one will put it away - their excuse - "We're going to use it anyway"

These "real" posts are pretty fun to read.

Too bad about your pumpkins.

Thanks for the glimpse into your "real life"!!
Love it!~
Especailly the tp...but that seems to be a favorite!
I missed walking all weekend with my parents here and ate way to many Kit Kats (I am still blaming your cake!!:) )
I think your garage after shot was awesome!! What a change!
Enjoy the day

I was wondering how long it would take us in our house to have to unravle those toilet paper pumpkins! I did for a minute think "Kerri must always have unlimited toilet paper forever to ba able to spare some for pumpkins, shes so lucky" Haha! I'm so silly.

Oh my gosh Kerri, this just makes me love you even more.
Okay, I have to say something about blogging. I Love it, really I do, but it must send out an unrealistic image of who we really are because we eventually end up with a post about "keeping it real" where we apologize for messy houses, eating candy, needing to use toilet paper and eating a pizza, etc...and the rest of us are saying, "Whew, she's just like me."
BTW...I tried to make the TP pumpkins and mine just ended up looking like apples. Maybe I'll get a large basket and some redish colored fabric and keep it that way.

One of my favorite posts EVER! This is a good idea - I am with you on trying to post positively, but man... some days, WOW. haha. I need to vent - maybe i'll try this soon!

Kerri, Kerri, Kerri. So many thoughts. Where to start....
1. Your blog has gotten popular girl! Look at how many comments you get. Wow! I know what it is...your sweet, genuine spirit comes through the pages of your blog. And, you are uplifting and inspiring.
2. Yes. The toilet paper is pretty funny. I could tell you some of the things I've used when I've run out of toilet paper, but that would be perhaps keeping it a little 'too' real.
3. I really liked the 'before' of your garage. 'Cuz I felt at home.
4. Ok - the soccer ball. If that one soccer ball laying in the backyard makes you crazy, you would go completely bonkers about our back yard. I have to admit we may be a little 'sanford & sonish' in that regard. But, my excuse there is the outside is my husband's domain. I can barely keep on top of the inside.
5. I'm scared to post my own 'keepin it real' pics because I'm afraid they're really bad. But, I guess I'll go out on a limb.

Great post. I loved the broken into craft project. I think this idea is great. My struggle is how to do about my day in a normal fashion and photograph it? I am going to give it a shot...thanks for sharing!

I love these posts... maybe I will remember to join the fun next week? or keepin it real... I won't unless I fall upon it earlier! ha!~ ;) my garage looked like that for a few months after a garage sale too... and various rooms of my house had piles of garage sale evidence for months too... ** sigh** ;)

This cracks me up! I think your pizza dinner looks delicious :) hahaa! I know the kids loved it! And why is it that we crave junk food after working out? My trainer cancelled this morning so I'm still in my pajamas!! We are all guilty :) You should keep it real more often - we all can relate! And don't get that soccer ball - your kiddos can get it! :)

I too laughed at the one itty bitty soccer ball. You have nothing to worry about my friend. I am salivating over your clean garage. Ours definitely could your before picture a run for its money. The quote is a great one. I think I may have to use it at some point. Thanks for the glimpse.

Cracking up! I love it! That's how our garage looks when BSD is away. THe ballerinas and I make a HUGE mess out of it. When he comes home, he doesn't even come inside, he just starts cleaning up "his" garage. It makes him NUTS not to have it all clean and organized.

And, your TP pumpkins are h.i.l.a.r.i.o.u.s.

That was a great quote.
