Mentally Exhausted

It rained this evening...so Brady did a "garage workout."

This boy pushes all my buttons.
His need to do everything perfect is draining to me.
If he doesn't do something right the first time....or feels he hasn't done his best....
watch out...all  H E double hockey sticks breaks loose.
His tennis skills for an 8 year old are through the roof amazing.
Why can't that be enough?
He practiced in the garage for an hour and fifteen minutes.
He wanted Eric to help him with some footwork drills...
he fussed and argued and then mastered it and then....
was happy as can be.
Tonight was just one of those nights when bedtime couldn't come soon enough.
He drives me crazy.

He's going to be the next Andy Roddick, I just know it!

I saw your comment on my Mom's blog tonight about where your blog name came from. Cute. I like that. And just wanted to say, our friends are eating dinner with Zach Brown and his band tonight! I am SO jealous!! They went to a concert and had vip backstage passes. Jealous. I'm a fan. :)

Kyle does that at times, and it is difficult to watch him being so hard on himself.

Drills in the garage, Brady is one dedicated kiddo!

my youngest is exactly the same with the determination trait ... and YES can it ever be draining to be her mother!! I SOOO get it, kerri ;-) sleep tight tonite!

He reminds me of the only other only child I know. Grew up to be a concert violinist, taught himself to not only play the drums but to anchor drumline, full tuition music scholarship, top ten of his graduating class.
Exhausting but awesome!

But he sure is cute!

I agree with Kris... :)

I can see how that kind of personality would be a total challenge. The upside is that is what makes his talent so incredible for an 8 year old! So on the days where it beats you down, I agree - put him to bed and take a load off!

Goodness Kerri, I think the beginning of school blues has us feeling a bit weary!
Isn't it kind of funny that sometimes our best traits can also be our worst. I guess "funny" was not the right word...maybe ironic!
I agree with Megan...take a deep breath, have some chocolate and put him to bed early! SOmeday these traits will serve him well...any probably drive his wife crazy!!!:) You can laugh really hard then!
have a happy day

saw Genn's comment and had to pop over to her mom's blog to read the story of your title....i had no idea...love it all the more now, that song is a tear jerker!!

My Parker is the same way. He is such a perfectionist (and the most athletic kid I know) do you think there could be some kind of connection? I think as Brady matures he will be more apt at dealing with his emotions. It is so hard for boys, I think society doesn't do enough to encourage boys to feel things. On the other hand, I admire his tenacity a lot. Hang in there momma, being cooped up because of rain is not good for any of us!!!

But he is doing it on his own...think of all the poor kids whose parents are driving them crazy trying to turn them into something they wanted to be themselves!
Whew! He is amazing!
Enjoy your weekend!

Brady is such a great kid who is going to go very far in life. BUT, the "mentally exhausted" and the "he drives me crazy" parts, I totally get. :)

I can only imagine how it must feel as his mother. BUT my goodness...he is going to be UNBELIEVABLE when he's older. Look out tennis world!!!

I have a little perfectionist too. I wish they wouldn't be so hard on themselves. Noah wants to hit every ball, make every basket. He is so good at his sports and I hope one day he will see just that!

I can imagine how maddening it must be as his mother....but at such a young age - to be so determined and self motivated...and to have such passion is quite amazing. The grass is always greener - mine seems to be so lost because she loves to be involved in many things...and keeps wanting to find that ONE thing that makes her unique. She can do well at just about anything she tries - but is not exceptional at any. What she wouldn't do to have that feeling of "calling" that Brady has with tennis.

oh my! my B is like that too and it truly is mentally exhausting! i am a recovering perfectionist, and it makes me sad to think my son might suffer for years like I did.
BUT - there are great things about it, too, and our B's are going to be just fine, focused and driven, with 2 tired Mamas in tow!
I feel I may need to get Brady's autograph now... ;)
