Eight and a Half

Yesterday we celebrated Brady's 1/2 birthday.
It's the second year in a row we've done this...which means it's now a tradition!
I got the idea from Cindy's blog
And, while some people may think this is a little over the top...
I think, we only have one child...so why the heck not?!

I made the kit-kat cake again...only smaller.
I used one cake mix and one can of frosting.
Last year we got Brady a book to open...but I ran out of
time and didn't get him a little gift.
He was thrilled with the cake and never asked about a gift.
I should have known....he's never been about the gifts.
But that boy sure does get excited over chocolate cake!

We sang "half-y birthday"
Brady asked about ice cream to go with the cake...
we told him there's no ice cream on half birthdays. ;)

We love you Beans!

Happy 8 and a 1/2!

so sweet, love the pics! we've always done the half birthdays as well ... I do a single cupcake with a candle and a book for the gift. I really love the tiny cake you made here - are there molds for mini cakes or did you cut it down?! Also, the song "half-y birthday"?! that's too cute - definitely have to add that one to our own tradition!!

I always acknowledge my kids' half birthdays too, it is such a big deal to them to add that "half" to their age. We don't always do a cake or cupcakes sometimes just go out for icecream or a special baking project. But I like to make it special too. It's the little things they'll remember as they get older right? Love how the cake looks, so cute. Happy 8 1/2 Brady!!!

How sweet!!
Birthdays were not a big thing in my house growing up, and though I still do not do big on the gift-side-of-things (honestly, I don't believe we have even bought him a present, yet) :/ I always do a huge to-do for his party that includes months of planning and crafting, etc... we have a large family and lot of friends always come to play.

I love a simple 1/2 day cake... a day of acknowledgment, really! maybe let them choose dinner for the night. (which is what we did growing up)
Thanks, for *another* great idea!

Love the cake! I'd take that over a gift any day too...it's a great idea..life is short and there can never be enough party times, family fun, and cute 81/2 yr. olds!
