Thanks For The 25 Years!

I have always thought of Oprah Winfrey as one of my girlfriends.  I think she makes most women feel this way.

I tried to sit down and write a lovely post about how much Oprah has meant to me these past 25 years and I just couldn't put my thoughts together.   I wanted to post something, because those who know me, know that I think of Oprah almost like family.  I love her.  I get defensive when someone teases me about her.  I guess I will put a few thoughts down so that I can have some closure as Oprah finishes her last two shows.

I have watched her everyday at 4pm for all of my adult life.  She has taught me so much about being a woman and she's had such a positive influence on me.  Here are just a handful of things that I have learned from Oprah:

.  I have learned to live in the moment.
I have learned to have an attitude of gratitude.
     I have learned about forgiveness.
I have learned to take responsibility and live my best life.
I have learned about managing money.
.  I have learned that being overweight is about something deeper.
I have learned about "aha" moments!
I have learned that chaos and clutter can drain you.
     I have learned about giving.
I have learned that you should surround yourself w/ people that bring out the best in you.
I have learned how to pick the right bra and that v-necks look better if you have big boobs!
.  I have learned that anything is possible and to never let fear hold me back.

I know I've learned so much more from Oprah, but these are the things that stick out the most for me.  I was 16 when she first went on the air.   Although I am grieving sad that Oprah will no longer be on the air everyday at 4pm...I am so very thankful for the 25 years she gave us.

Thank-You Oprah Winfrey!

It has been a great pleasure to watch and learn from you all these years!

I will miss you my friend!

Then I guess this would be a good time to tell you that I went to two tapings when we lived in Chicago? And I got to shake her hand? And I got to make a comment on TV? Twice?
I know. Now you can count me as your friend too.

Oprah phenom is incredible. She certainly rose above her upbringing, gave tons back to communities, countries, and helped educate children and adults alike. I remember her first shows in Chicago (where I grew up) and how she's grown and changed over the years. I never went to her show, but my Mom and Sister have on many occasions. The only time I've had to bite my tongue about Oprah is when she wants to give advice on raising kids, and marriage..both of which she's never done. (also the Obama thing..but I digress) I will miss her shows too, and hopefully we'll see more of her in other venues...Good bye Oprah!

What a great post!! I agree - I love Oprah. I won tickets in her lottery and got to go see her Show in Chicago last year and it was so fun to meet her in person. She is funny and beautiful and she feels like your best girlfriend when she talks.

I love how you put what you have learned from her because, heck, I think the whole world has learned quite alot from Oprah and her many shows with variee topics. Whether people like her or not she has been an influence and I think for the positive.

She will definately be missed.

Ok, not there was EVER any doubt, but now I know we would be awesome friends in real life too!! You me and Oprah could hang out!!!:)
I love her too! And have learned so much from her show. I am really going to miss it. I love what she says about "Your eyes lighting up when your children come into the room" (actually a quote from Maya Angelou)...I think of that every day.
The big girls were at a friends house yesterday so Aubrey and I sat down and watched yesterday's show live (I usually have to watch them DVR'ed) I kept getting chills and tearing up! Today is going to be too much!
Have a happy day and I will be thinking of you at 4:00!!!!

I hardly ever, I mean ever get to watch her. 4 pm is almost the busiest time of my day...and at 10 pm I am usually almost asleep. It does seem that every time I do happen to hawatch, I am enlightened or touched in some way. What a sweet tribute. You know she will be around. I bet you wont have to miss her for long!

I have been glued to her show this last week. I boohooed while watching the first of the final three shows. I have also watched her and learned so much. I love your post and you sharing what you have learned from her. I have also learned more about TRUE forgiveness, gratitude and giving, weight issues, etc. Oh, the bra and boobs thing made me laugh. Yes, she has taught us so much. What she has done for so many will never be measured, she is just amazing!!!! :)

One of the greatest life lessons I learned was from Maya Angelou, who she had on so many times. She gave this quote and it's so profound to me. "I did then what I knew how to do, and when I knew better, I did better". I repeat that a lot!

oh, kerri, i wholeheartedly agree with you about oprah - she's my best girlfriend too ;-) did you see the 2-part 'master class' show (on her 'OWN' network) that focused on her life - it's AMAZING, what an unbelievable inspiration she is to sooooo many! I have been crying my eyes out over the last week with each show ... especially the ones last week where she brought back her favorite guests - the children whose mom left them with in the divorce, the girl whose mom died of cancer and left her all the video tapes, Matty Stepanek, Tererai Trent, the whole week was a cryfest for me!! today is really really going to be tough ... it comes on at 4:00 here too ... I'll be thinking of you ;-)

Was soooo excited (maybe too excited) to get your comment...and felt such a connection when I read your post yesterday!! I felt so scattered trying to put my post together -- like almost panicked (lol) with the realization the show is about to be over... Actually, you had me (as a follower) when you bravely commented on my blog when I was looking for people who might be "over 40". ;) We must chat!
(I don't know where my little picture/comment icon went...I'm new to this blogging thing!)

It's on at the worst time of the day so I haven't watched her in years. I taped today's show. I'm looking forward to watching it. I do think she is a phenomenal person. I don't think there's person on the planet who doesn't know who Oprah is. She is amazing. Love your tribute, Kerri!

Love her too. Two of my best days ever {besides having my children and my wedding day} were going to see her show twice with my sister. I even shook her hand! But I agree, I have learned a lot from her over the years and even realized I was wearing the wrong bra size after her bra show! She's the best.

I always loved Oprah...until she got political. It ruined it for me. :( I felt a little sad that she is saying goodbye after 25 years and I didn't even care to watch, because like you, I did think of her as a friend a long while ago. I love your list! :)
