Last Week

*Thanks so much for all of your kind words and birthday wishes to Brady on my previous post...I really do have the BEST blog friends in all of blogland!  I appreciate each and every one of you taking the time to comment on my blog.  :)

Last week we celebrated Brady's 9th birthday.
He asked if it could be a "low key" birthday.
He didn't want a party and only wanted a couple of presents.
He didn't have any ideas as far as gifts go...he really didn't care.
Such an easy going kid.

It has become a tradition in our house to have a treasure hunt with clues...and sometimes a map for Brady to find one of his birthday gifts.  We always hide the gift outside.

Brady was thrilled when he put the first letter of each clue together and figured out he was getting an ipod.

We gave Brady a list of options of things we could do on his birthday (none of them being tennis!).  He decided instead of going to his favorite restaurant for his birthday meal, he wanted me to cook steak, potatoes and broccoli.  And the only thing he wanted so badly to do...was the thing he does just about everyday.

Last week....Brady took some of his birthday money and bought  goldfish.  We tried to talk him out of it...but it was no use.  He named them after two people on his favorite tv show.

Don't worry...the water is clear now!

Last week my sister Meghan sent Brady this awesome birthday gift...and he LOVES it!  Thanks Aunt Meghan!

Last week Eric and I tried this 7 day diet....and we only made it a day and a half.  (A mom I know lost 10lbs in one week on this diet) It left us wondering why we are always willing to go to extremes to lose weight...but never willing to do what we know works???  Sometimes I don't know what's the matter with us!

Last week the tennis team was given their warm up jackets for the season...Brady got one too.  Today, he wore it to school...which suprised me.  Usually he likes to keep tennis on the down low at school.  I guess he's pretty proud to have a jacket like the high school boys and be a part of the team.

He is long overdue for a haircut!

Last week I helped served the teacher's dinner on the night of conferences.  We do the dinner on the evening where the school has early dismisal and the teachers start their conferences shortly thereafter.  The teachers stop into the teacher lounge to eat as they have openings in their schedule.  They always seem to enjoy their dinner and are always so appreciative.  We do a meal in the fall and one in the spring.  In the spring we always do a soup and salad bar.  We had 3 different soups and also pulled pork sandwiches.  We had a dessert bar too.  I made 35 mini butterfinger parfaits...but forgot to get a picture.   I think I posted that recipe before...but I couldn't find it.  Brady had a great conference and grade card...I'll just say we're kinda proud. :)

Brady & Mr. B

Last week, our trees were in full bloom.  It was a beautiful week...we even hit 80 degrees a couple of days.  Our grass is so green.   Brady wore shorts to school all week....in March!  Crazy crazy weather we're having....and I LOVE it!

And in other exciting news....last week, Brady finally learned how to blow a bubble!

Hope you're all having a great week!

I love newsy posts like this. I reminds me that I am not alone in this world called motherhood. Other parents say no to their kids, too!

Glad his report card was good!

Looks like he had a great birthday bash and did just what everyone on their birthday should do...just what they really, really want! He's a super cool kiddo!

Sounds like a perfect week!

I love the scavenger hint idea... Although we use the party as our gift-- and for now, we get away with that!

...I'll keep it in mind though!!

My mom always made us our favorite meal on our birthdays too... We never had a big to-do, so still to this day, that's a special memory I have.
(even though I was the annoying kid who picked like 7 vegetables... And bread!)

Kerri, I have been behind in visiting my blog friends and only just now read your birthday post to Brady. It brought me to tears and was so thoughtfully and eloquently written! Though we have never met, and probably never will, I identify with so many of the cherished feelings that motherhood (and grand parenthood) bring to you because I too cherished that time in my life with my children, just as I am now enjoying being a Grandma. Brady is one lucky boy to be loved so much. He is clearly a special child with such promise for his future!!
XO Kris

Hi Kerri!
I missed Brady's birthday post, but you sure do know how to make a blogger cry. That was so sweet. Brady sounds like such an amazing kid. I really wish I knew him (and you!)

Love that first shot of Brady with his cake and candles. Neat picture.
I'm glad he had a nice day celebrating.

Have a good week!

Fun busy week. Brady is such a down to earth kid. Seriously. What kid asks for things to be "Low Key". None of my 5 children.
And it truly is a great day when they learn to blow a bubble....because that is the day they stop pestering you to teach them. Haha

I hope Boyd grows up to be easy going and loving the simple things, just like Brady! I love how simple he wanted his birthday. Brady is such a great kid! I love him to pieces and I don't even know him in real life, but yet I feel like I do! :) I love the names of the fish, and that tree is GORGEOUS. Have a great day!

What a great birthday for a well deserving kid! If that's an iPod touch he will love it! (If he's goofy like my kids...tell him to look for the app Plumber Crack...it's hilarious!). Love the goldfish and that they're named after The Middle kids... We are loving the nicer weather too -Enjoy!

Brady is looking more and more like your hubby, I think Kerri. What a handsome kid!! Happy birthday to him!
You have such a special relationship with him and you do just what I did with my kids growing up...cherish every minute! It goes sooo fast!!

LOVE that kid! Love that he wore his jacket to school. And got you guys to let him play tennis on his birthday. :)

And...tee hee...is that the cabbage soup diet? I made some of that soup too. About 2 years ago? And there's still a container in my freezer. Guilty here too. :)

I read his birthday post but I remember having a sick kid in my lap so commenting was impossible. Anyway, I hope he had a wonderful birthday, it sure appears that he did! I think it is so awesome that you guys do so much to make his birthday special. He is such a lucky boy. Congrats on the bubble blowing, I can sort of remember when I learned myself and I thought it was such a big DEAL! I am surprised he doesn't talk about tennis at school (in reference to wearing his new jacket). It seems like all the kids I know are so braggy about everything, yet another example of Brady's totally awesomeness. Happy (belated) birthday Brady, I hope 9 is just fine. We are enjoying some warm weather here too. Love it so much!
