A Walk In The Garden

A few days ago our friend Pearl asked us to go to Hershey Gardens with her.  We had never been there before.   Oh, we've been to Hershey hundreds of times...but when we go, it's to go to Chocolate World!   Anyway, went and had a wonderful afternoon.  Brady was really into identifying all the butterflies and doing the scavenger hunt in the children's garden.

Across the street from the gardens is Hershey Amusement Park.

These kisses sprayed mist every few seconds.  Brady kept wanting to go back to this area!

Butterfly house.

Brady bought this Live Butterfly Garden with his own money.  He has seen it advertise on tv a gazillion times...those dumb tv commercials that get my son everytime and has wanted it since early spring.  I kept delaying the purchase for him and then we walked into the gift shop at the gardens and he spotted it instantly.  Better his money than mine I guess.  It was $25.00 and then when you open it up you find out you have to send $3.00 in the mail (or online) to get 3-5 caterpillars that will come to your house in 1-3weeks!  I know it's educational, blah, blah, blah...but I can't help thinking he got ripped off!

I'm thinking of getting these pictures developed and making them
into notecards to give to Pearl.

(I bought peaches yesterday at a stand and put one in his lunchbox...nothing out of the ordinary.)

It made my day!  Sometimes it's the little simple things that mean the most.
What can you do to make someone's day?

An Easy Appetizer

We love this chicken dip and it is so easy.  It's my quick go-to recipe if I need an appetizer for a friend's house or if someone stops by for a visit.   We like it HOT...but you can control the amount of hot sauce you add to make it more tolerable for you.

Here's what you'll need:

8 oz. cream cheese
1/2 c. hot sauce
1/2 packet of ranch dressing mix
cayenne pepper (optional)
12.5 oz. can of chicken
tortilla chips

Add chicken and cream cheese to a bowl (no need to mix yet).  Put it in microwave for about a 90 seconds.  Stir.  Add hot sauce and ranch dressing. Stir.  Add cayenne pepper.  Put back into microwave for 2 minutes and stir.  Done.

I usually make a double batch if we're going somewhere...because it usually goes pretty quickly!  Serve with tortilla chips.

If you try it...let me know what you think!

Font Frustration

Ok, I know it's a minor detail...but it's really driving me crazy!   How come my font is different from everyone else's?  My regular font...the one I'm using right now...looks BOLD even though I haven't changed a thing.  How can I get my font to be just regular??  As I look back at all my posts...I've never had the normal font...not even on my very first post....so it's not like I changed a setting or anything.   Any help would be so appreciated...I'll be your best friend!

A couple people asked for my tomato cucumber recipe from the other day.  Oh my word!  It's just tomatoes, cucumbers, salt, pepper and some dill.  That's it.  The tomatoes have such a good taste right now...no need to add any olive oil or anything.

I found these yesterday at the grocery....they were right by the Flavor Ice.  I'm excited to try them....they're only 35 calories.  Too bad they don't come in Diet Mt. Dew....maybe then I could kick my habit! (I just tried the 7up one...and it was great!)

Speaking of the grocery...when I picked up the milk yesterday, I saw that the "sell by" date was Aug. 22nd.   It hit me like a ton on bricks, that school will be starting eight days after that date.  My eyes teared up and I quickly had to think of something else.  I'm not ready for school to start for so many reasons...and I refuse to spend my last few weeks of summer worrying about it.  So, for now, we're not going to talk about that.

80's party we went to in June!
Brady is spending the night at Grandma & Grandpa's house tonight!   Yay!    Eric and I are so excited...we were high-fiving when Eric's parents called the other day to see if they could have him Friday into Saturday evening!  The three of us are always together...I don't have family in the area and Eric's parents live about an hour from us.  Brady usually spends the night with them two or three nights a year.   Anyway, we decided that we're just going to grill out...I got a couple of steaks and hopefully the weather will be nice enough to eat outside.  Usually we would just go out to dinner...but we spent so much money eating out last week on vacation...we thought this would be a smarter choice!  It doesn't really matter...it will just be nice to have uninterrupted adult conversation!

  Have a great weekend!

Ten on Ten: August

A couple of months ago I saw a post on Kim's blog called Ten on Ten. The object is to take a picture every hour for 10 consecutive hours on the 10th of the month.  I wanted to try it last month but the tenth came and went and I forgot all about it!  Kim was nice enough to remind us yesterday to not forgot about participating today!  She's so nice!

We didn't have anything exciting planned for today, so I was thinking this morning that my pictures might be a little boring.  But, as I look at my pictures, I am reminded of the purpose of this exercise...which is to find the beauty in the ordinary moments.   With that said....I had a pretty darn good day!

peach, banana & blueberry smoothie-yum!

Brady was giving me a hard time over some dumb computer game...
thankfully Daddy called to check in this morning at just the right time!
(Brady was also furious w/ me for taking this picture!)

He always wants to make up....man I love that kid!

What the heck is going on w/ my blog?  I tried to change the font and now my
blog is perfect for the visually impaired!

Brady was invited to practice with the girls highschool JV team today at the park.
He was so excited to play in some doubles matches...he even won a few!
The girls were so nice to him...is he lucky or what?!

Stopped at a veggie stand on our way home from the park.  I could have gotten a better
picture....the other side of the stand had lots more stuff...but I was trying to hurry before
the Amish lady came out of the house so I quick snapped the picture on my way to the tomatoes!

I made a cucumber tomato salad....accidentally spilled half the container
of dill into the bowl...ooops!

Went to the gym w/ my hubby this evening....we're trying to get
this darn vacation weight off!

We made popcorn for "Losing It With Jillian" this evening.  We
had DVR'd it while we were on vacation.
Not sure why...but Brady really likes that show.

This boy gives the BEST massages (and loves to do so)....ahhhh what a day!
